Making Mommy Laugh

Last Sunday, my son and daughter asked my Mom if they could spend the Friday night.

Of course, my Mom said it was fine.

My Mom then asked me what I was going to do for the evening.

"She's probably going to wash clothes and clean the house" was my daughter's response.

"Yeah! Because we won't be in her way" was my son's response.

Sadly? Last night I did a bit of cleaning and got a couple loads of laundry under my belt.

HA-HA-HA!

My kids know me all too well.

But I did pick up a LARGE serving of Pho with steak just for little ole me. It was delish!

Sweets on Valentines

Today is Valentine's Day.

There are sweets ALL.OVER.THE.PLACE.

I understand this.

New Favorite

I was in my car the other day when I heard a song.

A beautiful song.

One with words that spoke to me.
I won't give up on us
Even if the skies get rough
I'm giving you all my love
I'm still looking up
And when you're needing your space
To do some navigating
I'll be here patiently waiting
To see what you find
'Cause even the stars they burn
Some even fall to the earth
We've got a lot to learn
God knows we're worth it
No, I won't give up
I don't wanna be someone who walks away so easily
I'm here to stay and make the difference that I can make
Our differences they do a lot to teach us how to use
The tools and gifts we got yeah, we got a lot at stake
And in the end, you're still my friend at least we did intend
For us to work we didn't break, we didn't burn
We had to learn how to bend without the world caving in
I had to learn what I've got, and what I'm not
And who I am
This song really got to me.

I ended up crying in my car because it spoke to my heart.

Thank you Jason Mraz for this beautiful song.

Keeping the family tight

Last weekend, the kids and I went up to my sister's house.

Why?

Because she wanted to help me color my hair. I normally do it on my own on a Friday or Saturday night. Woo-hoo! Fun times here at my house, eh?

Not only did I get my hair done. We helped my niece pick up her stock of Girl Scout cookies. Oh yeah! It's COOKIE season! I picked up some face cleanser stuff at the mall. We helped my niece pick out an outfit for an art showing/auction where a few of her pieces were being displayed/auctioned. AND I had some heart-to-heart time with my sister & BIL.

And tomorrow? We'll be headed up to my sister's house again. Everyone will be there. Yes. We're going to be watching some football. Yes. We'll be eating a lot of food. It's going to be a potluck. With about 20 people attending, it had better be a potluck!

We'll probably play some Superbowl games. You know, what team will score the first touchdown. Who will have the first penalty. Who'll be ahead at the half. Typical stuff to keep things interesting.

It'll be a time for catching up. A time for games. A time to eat some grub. A time to make new wonderful memories together. I love my family and totally enjoy hanging out with them!

I abandoned the ship for a little while

I never seemed to get back into the swing of things when we got through the holidays.

It hasn't been the smoothest of months for me.

Not going into details but I'm still here.

My life has been jumbled.

I feel a little unsteady on my feet.

My mind has been filled with busy-ness.

I've had some days where my heart feels empty.

I've had moments where I feel defeated.

But...I keep coming back. Not totally strong as steel. But I'm keeping my head above water.

My sisters and my parents have lifted my spirits when I've been down.

The kids have made me laugh when I really needed it.

Life is continuing as best it can.

Life is keeping me busy

I'm tired.

It seems that I've been tired since Thanksgiving weekend!

[sigh]

It's been super busy at work....again!

And with the holidays upon us, we've got things scheduled during our "free" time.

Tonight was my daughter's 6th grade holiday band/orchestra concert.

Tomorrow I've got to take my car in to get something fixed.

Friday, the kids and I are meeting up with my Mom and attending our church's choirs' Christmas concert. Singing and bells. Then we're having a late dinner. It's gonna be great!

Saturday I'm taking the kids to Seaworld. When we went during the summer, I got the 2 for 1 deal. Two days for just one price. The place is going to be decorated so we won't go out there until lunchtime. This way we'll get to see the lights.

Sunday will be at home. I am definitely going to need a nap. I'd say in the two to three hour range.

Have the holidays ramped up for you? Are you already swamped with running here and there?

Giving Thanks - Day 25 of 30

Day 25:
I am thankful that my workplace automatically gives us the day after Thanksgiving off.

I know people whose workplaces consider the day after Thanksgiving a regular workday. Anyone who works at a hospital. Anyone who works at a newspaper. A regular workday! So to have a 4-day weekend, they have to burn a vacation day. I am so happy my current considers it an automatic holiday. Actually all my past employers have considered it a holiday.

Giving Thanks - Day 24 of 30

Day 24:
I am thankful to be spending the holiday with family.

Being able to have both the kids and the Hubs with me today is something I am grateful for. Back in September, I thought I'd be sending the kids out to the Hubs for the holiday. But we're all together. And I am so thankful for it.
